The plastics industry consists of a wide variety of ever-changing trades!

|
| An established regional tradition, the plastics industry has changed, both in terms of expertise and its business sector. The Aisne is playing an active role in the expansion of the French plastics industry, thanks particularly to its high number of processing trades.

The industry requires the participation of different trades and uses a range of technical processes: extrusion, injection, thermoforming and rotational moulding, all of which are used by motor vehicle equipment manufacturers in particular.
Smaller workshops developing new uses for plastic film have emerged alongside these major plastics specialists.
Changing processes, materials, design and industrial management tools require companies to work relentlessly to remain among the most competitive on the market.
A plastics industry contract was therefore established in 2001 with a view to helping these companies prepare themselves for the new constraints emerging in the sector.
Focus on rubber
This sector employs almost 600 people.
The vast majority of these employees work for WEST PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES FRANCE, based in Nouvion-en-Thiérache.
A subsidiary of an American group, the company specialises in the manufacture of rubber components used mainly for the packaging of pharmaceutical products.
WEST COMPANY represents a 72% share of the global rubber and aluminium market.
Within the group, the Nouvion-en-Thiérache site is piloting Westar, a product that holds a lot of promise for the coming years.
