With two former capitals of France: Laon and Soissons, this département is the ideal destination for lovers of history and cultural heritage. |
The Aisne boasts a wealth of cultural and historic diversity:
- Famous abbeys: St-Michel, Mère de Prémontré and Vauclair
- The fortified churches of Thiérache
- Châteaux: the Château de Guise, the Château de Condé,
the Château de Coucy, the Fort de Condé and the ruins of the Château de la Fère
- Museums
- The utopia created by Godin: his "Social
palace"
- "Le chemin des Dames"
(The Ladies' Route),
taken by the daughters of Louis XV, the Dames de France, which remains above all associated with the terrible fighting of World War I.
